Draumkvedet
In 2024, Ensemble Quartensprung presented the project ‘Traumgsang’ with four concerts in various locations in Germany and Switzerland.
The centrepiece of the ‘Traumgsang’ concert was the Norwegian song cycle ‘Draumkvedet’ from the Middle Ages, which, similar to Dante's Divina Commedia, tells of a journey through hell, purgatory and paradise. The melodies have only been passed down orally and there are over 100 different versions of them. The Quartensprung ensemble put together its own version for violin/Hardanger fiddle, Gothic harp, cello and voice for this project. Musically, the Draumkvedet and folk tunes were supplemented with thematically related contemporary pieces and thus woven into a coherent overall concert dramaturgy. A shadow play visually enhanced the musical action.

About the ensemble:
Quartensprung is a chamber music ensemble founded in 2022 that focuses on transnational and participatory concert formats. The ensemble seeks new ways to bring music, literature, art and culture to life. It combines different genres in interactive concert formats. In 2023, its concept Das Lied des Steppenwolfs (The Song of the Steppenwolf), based on a novella by Hermann Hesse, was honoured as one of three finalist concepts in the Hugo Competition. In 2024, Quartensprung realised the interdisciplinary concert Tropfenspiel (Drip Game) in the Prima Volta concert series in Zurich.
