How can music be visualised, embodied and experienced in sign language?

In the summer of 2024, Onna Stäheli was Artist in Residence at the Cité internationale des Arts in Paris, where she researched a new form of musical theatre incorporating French and German sign language.

Together with poet Djenebou Bathily (Deaf*), she created a performance in LSF.

The concept can be combined with any text or piece of music and is also suitable for larger groups, choirs, dance companies and sign language choirs.

Premiere (work in progress): September 2024, Cité internationale des Arts Paris

* The adjective “deaf” is capitalised. It is a self-designation used by “people who feel connected to sign languages, deaf communities and deaf cultures”.
